B&Q – Diversity Elearning

Requirement

Diversity elearning case studyB&Q had a requirement to produce an application to raise the awareness of diversity and respect issues among it’s 35,000 employees, including new starters. This included replacing a compliance based existing module and exhibiting a shift in emphasis; rather than focusing on proper behaviours in relation to certain sections of society, the aim was to introduce a more rounded mindset regarding the basic principles of respect for everyone staff might come into contact with.

Solution

For this programme, which was created in conjunction with one of our partners, we developed a model called the Respect Triangle, that acts as a checklist for interpersonal behaviours. An interactive ‘virtual store’ was also built, which made up the bulk of the programme by utilising a number of video scenarios, each focusing on a specific issue of respect.

This provided a broad spectrum of subject matters for the learner to consider and could then be used in conjunction with the Respect Triangle.

The video scenario’s incorporated ‘branching’ options, in which the learner was questioned regarding the behaviour they had just witnessed and then prompted to give their response to the experience. As the majority of the programme focused on behavioural training (rather than legislative or compliance based), the factual content was presented using three methods: ‘Bites’ - short quotes or statistics that were relevant or added interest; key points were presented as bulleted lists and a Materials panel, which referenced other information and materials available, including policy documentation.
